Extra Parental Rights for Dads Branded a ‘Grotesque Deception’
Fathers4Justice (F4J) today branded government proposals to increase parental rights for dads as a ‘grotesque deception’.
The proposals, revealed in today’s Queens Speech, are expected to consider legal requirements to ensure that most children will have a relationship with their father if their parents divorce.
Judges will also have to ensure children enjoy a “meaningful” relationship with their father if possible.
Fathers4Justice say the the form of words used is ‘meaningless’ and is being spun to create the illusion of change.
F4J also say that the Ministerial Working Party set up to look at the issue of increasing parental rights for dads excludes representation from the largest equal parenting group (Fathers4Justice) and comprises mostly of women’s groups. F4J says it is astonishing that a group looking at increased parental rights for dads comprises 9 women and just 2 men.
Said F4J Campaign Director Nadine O’Connor, ‘This is a grotesque deception that promises everything for dads but delivers nothing and will not guarantee fathers any rights in law to see their children.’
‘Fathers in this country will continue to be denied equal rights and continue to be denied a voice by the coalition government. There can be no change without representation and the exclusion of the largest equal parenting group (F4J) from the Ministerial Working Party undermines the legitimacy of the consultation process.’
‘What we are left with is trail of broken promises that will see the continued expansion of a fatherless Britain.’
