Fathers4Justice statement on Buckingham Palace Protest
The official Fathers4Justice campaign group, started by Matt O’Connor in 2001, tonight denied any involvement in a protest on a gallery roof at Buckingham Palace, staged by one of several copycat groups.
F4J had previously staged a high-profile protest on the Royal Balcony of Buckingham Palace in September, 2004, when a protestor dressed as Batman scaled the building CLICK HERE
Since 2008 the group has been committed to the political process, having won the support of 104 MPs from all parties in the last Parliament.
Said Fathers4Justice founder, Matt O’Connor, “More than anyone we understand the frustrations of Britain’s dads at their continuing inhuman and degrading treatment. When we staged our Buckingham Palace protest in 2004, the climate in London was entirely different.
However, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris, it is the wrong time to stage a protest at a sensitive location.
These actions, which have been deliberately credited to “Fathers4Justice” in some cases, are harmful to our political work because of the confusion caused.
Let me stress however, as a campaign group with a history of direct action, we support other groups in continuing to stage high profile protests, when the climate is right, and we are grateful the protestors are down safely having raised awareness of this major social issue.”
