Fathers4Justice condemn Hampshire Police over ‘inhuman’ treatment of Ashya King’s parents

Fathers4Justice today condemned Hampshire Police over the ‘inhuman’ treatment of Ashya King’s parents which they say is unlawful and amounts to cruel and degrading treatment of parents when their five-year-old son has just months left to live.

Campaign Director Nadine O’Connor said, “This is yet another example of how Hampshire Police continues to pervert the course of justice in cases involving families.”

“Earlier this year Chief Constable Andy Marsh was investigated for leaking confidential information about child abuse at Stanbridge Earls School to Caroline Nokes MP. Now they have almost certainly acted unlawfully in obtaining a European Arrest Warrant for Ashya King’s parents on false grounds.”

Fathers4Justice have said they will closely monitor events and are prepared to assist the family if required.

Daily Mail 2/9/14 Did police break the law by ordering arrest of anguished parents

Last night, Hampshire Police refused to discuss its actions and said the matter was now in the hands of the Spanish police.

At the weekend Assistant Chief Constable Chris Shead said the force would not apologise for the way it conducted the search for the Kings. He said it was acting on ‘explicit medical advice’ that Ashya’s life was in danger and said the warrant was based around ‘neglect’.

Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes defended the county’s force against accusations of being ‘heavy handed’.

He said: ‘I think if Hampshire Constabulary had ignored the professional medical advice and opinion then they would have been negligent in their responsibilities to safeguard Ashya.’
